The Goethefelsen in the Bodetal got its name on the occasion of the 200th birthday of Johann Wolfgang von Goethe in August 1949. He is said to have stayed at that granite rock in September 1783 and rested on the Goethestein.

The Goethestein is a in the Bodetal in the Harz in Saxony-Anhalt in the course of the Bode protruding granite plate.
It is located on the left bank of the Bode between Königsruhe and Thale in the area of the town of Thale and can be reached from the hiking trail there via a staircase leading down to the stone. In the immediate vicinity a little further down the river is the Goethe Rock.
On September 11, 1783, Johann Wolfgang von Goethe and Fritz von Stein had taken a lunch break on the granite slab, which resulted in the name of the stone. Goethe is also said to have examined the weathering cracks in the granite here.

This is where Goehte took a break and one year later he painted himself here.
The rock is also called Siebenbrüderfelsen ...... but that's another saga. Goete was really there!
