It is one of the symbols of Aveiro, along with Ovos Moles and the University of Aveiro. Among the typical boats of the region, the moliceiro is considered the most elegant; despite its colourful and humorous decoration, it is a work boat for collecting moliço, which was the main source of fertiliser on the agricultural lands of Aveiro.
