Now the correct Marienthal monastery can be seen in the pictures, the pictures of the Johannisberg monastery have been deleted!

Deep in the valley, you'll come across the Marienthal Monastery Church, which has had a turbulent history, and: the name says it all: it all begins with an apparition of the Virgin Mary....

In 1309, the hunter Hecker Henn went blind in an accident. Since no doctor could help him, he had himself taken to the forest valley where the "Vesperbild" (Vesper Picture) was attached to a tree. After kneeling and praying with complete trust to the Mother of God as her intercessor, he could see clearly again!

Throughout its history, the pilgrimage site has been cared for by various communities. In 1468, the world's first monastic printing press was established here.

Since 1873, the pilgrimage site has been cared for by Franciscans. Even during the Kulturkampf (Culture War) from 1875 to 1888, Franciscan Father Guido Keller remained in Marienthal, despite many difficulties.

The 3 photos are not of the Mariental monastery, but of the Johannisberg monastery!

(secularized for years, now hotel but closed)
