On the third hill of Brisighella, surrounded by cypresses, is the Sanctuary of the Madonna del Monticino.
Here a sacred image in polychrome terracotta by an unknown artist is venerated, dated 1626, originally placed on a pillar at the gates of the town, then, in 1662, transferred to a hermitage built with the offerings of the faithful.
That first building, demolished in 1758, was replaced by the current one, which has frescoes by the Faenza painter Savino Lega in the apse.
The main altar is covered with precious marble, surrounded by Ionic capitals, stuccos and decorations.
In 1926 the Sanctuary was enriched with a grandiose facade, donated by Cardinal Michele Lega, built on a design by Edoardo Collamarini.
At the back of the sanctuary, the quarry from which plaster was extracted until a few years ago has become an open-air Geological Museum.
