The castle of Rontana, unfortunately destroyed, stood on the top of Monte di Rontana and is remembered for the first time in 973 with Ugone di Rontana [23].
Over the centuries, the fortification belonged, in succession: to the Forlivesi (1201), to the Faenza (1209), to the Manfredi (1291), to Maghinardo Pagani (1292), to the Manfredi di Marradi (1413), alternatively to the Manfredi and the Holy See (during the fourteenth century).
In 1500 it was conquered by Dionigi Naldi on behalf of Cesare Borgia; in 1506 it belonged to the Venetians, and then returned again to the Papal State.
In 1591 Pope Gregory XIV ordered its demolition, having become the refuge of a large band of brigands.
Since then, the castle has never been rebuilt and today only a few ruins remain.
