In 1907 it was described as a "cleverly laid out kiosk from which you can enjoy the view of the water terrace".
A pencil drawing by Conrad Dammeier from 1920 shows the little house as "Halle am Strassenknick".
The building was obviously dedicated to the memory of Carl Friedrich August von Kaehne (1775-1857) and hence its name.
