    Great building, very nicely restored.

On the shore of the Haussee lake in the middle of the landscape park, which Peter Joseph Lenné included in his planning in a brilliant way, the visitor will find the reed-roofed wash house with round-arched eaves and gable boards. The house, built around 1825 according to plans by Schinkel, now houses Petzow's local history museum. After its original purpose as a washing and mangle house, today there is an exhibition on the history of the town and the Petzow Park, in which you can see e.g. can provide information about the work of Zelter, the family of Kaehne, Lenné, Schinkel and King Friedrich Wilhelm IV in Petzow.

The washhouse in Petzow includes an exhibition on local history and a second exhibition on the cultural history of laundry care.

The exhibition in the Petzow washhouse is divided into two parts: In one part, the history of the culture of washing clothes is told in great detail at an authentic site. There are exhibits and explanatory panels, implements and machines, and also a good number of quality art prints. Here you can see how well-known painters such as Max Liebermann, Henri Toulouse Lautrec or Vincent van Gogh dedicated themselves to depicting the often glorified profession of the laundress.

The other part of the exhibition has the character of a local history museum. Here the story of Petzow is told, which is rich in historically significant personalities whose life paths crossed the small town. You can see here, among other things, a copy of the first documentary mention, the coat of arms of the landowning family Kaehne and their family tree, historical objects from the brickworks, display boards and showcases on the work of important people such as Schinkel, Lenné, Fontane and Zelter.
