The Gudenau, modestly called "Burg", is actually a romantic baroque castle in the Bachaue near the village of Villip. The park is open from March to December. The picturesque ensemble of buildings can be viewed from a field path outside opening hours with a vantage point to the east of the property. The noble seat got its baroque form in the 17th century. This also included the spacious Italian park – the only private baroque garden in the Rhineland that is still preserved today.

The moated castle of Gudenau was built in the 13th century, and the gardens were expanded under Italian influence in the 17th century. Today the castle itself is privately owned, but you can visit the park: from March to December 20, Monday to Friday from 8 a.m. to 12 p.m. and 1 p.m. to 5 p.m.; the park is closed on Saturdays, Sundays and public holidays.

The four-wing main castle with a large park at the rear was built in the early 13th century and expanded around 1560. Here the building received additions such as bay windows or curved hoods.

In the 17th century, the impressive gardens were created under Italian influence. Unfortunately, the garden is currently closed due to a collapsed wall (as of July 2nd, 2017)

A second outer bailey with its mighty five-storey gate tower, a slated hipped roof and an octagonal clock tower defines the front side of the castle. The main castle still has a Gothic bay window and a round corner tower with a pointed slate hood, the other three corner towers have baroque hoods.

Privately owned and can therefore only be viewed from the outside.
