One of the scenic highlights in the Altmühltal Nature Park is the rock group "Twelve Apostles". The mighty towering dolomite rocks between Solnhofen and Eßlingen greet boaters on the Altmühl, cyclists on the Altmühltal cycle path and hikers on their tours around Solnhofen. The geological underground of the "Twelve Apostles" form the thick-banked layer limestone of Treuchtlinger marble, a type of rock of the White Jurassic. On the thresholds of the White Jurassic Sea developed as a geological feature so-called "sponge limestones". They are more difficult to weather and have therefore been prepared as rocks.Further information: naturpark-altmuehltal.de/poi/felsformation_zwoelf_apostel-2242
