Wonderful view of the "12 Apostles" rock formation. The "Twelve Apostles" are a rock group worth seeing in a dry Jura slope and here you have a perfect "photo station" right on the bike path.

One of the scenic highlights in the Altmühltal Nature Park is the rock group "Twelve Apostles". The towering dolomite cliffs between Solnhofen and Eßlingen greet boaters on the Altmühl, cyclists on the Altmühltal cycle path and hikers on their tours around Solnhofen.

The geological subsurface of the "Twelve Apostles" is formed by the thick layered limestone of the Treuchtlinger marble, a type of rock from the White Jura. At the thresholds of the White Jurassic Sea, so-called "sponge limestone" developed as a geological feature. They are more difficult to weather and were therefore carved out as rocks.
