The Gauss Tower is a 51 m high transmission and observation tower from 1964 on the "Hoher Hagen" mountain near Dransfeld in the Göttingen district. (...) The tower is named after Carl Friedrich Gauß, who made the large triangle Hoher Hagen – Brocken – Großer Inselsberg a basis for the state survey of the Kingdom of Hanover.
There was also a predecessor tower nearby, the "Old Gauss Tower" from 1911. Due to the approaching demolition limit and blasting in the "Basaltsteinbruch Hoher Hagen", cracks in the Old Gauss Tower were already evident in the 1950s. In 1963 the Old Gauss Tower collapsed and the operators of the quarry were legally obliged to finance a new building. (Source: wikipedia.de)

As of June 28, 2017, the restaurant in the Gauss Tower does not have a tenant, so it is not easy to climb the viewing platform.
In the parking lot in front of the Gauss Tower there is a notice on the display board that you can get information about visiting the viewing platform at the reception of the campsite "Am Hohen Hagen" or by calling 05502-2147. According to the notice board, a fee of EUR 1 per person will be charged for the tour.
