Five gurgling fountains decorate Stortorget, Kalmar's Grand Square on the island of Kvarnholmen. It was built during the mid 17th century around Kalmar Cathedral as a large flat rectangle 90 metres wide and 110 metres long. A large portion of the square is built from cobblestones that vary in size and color. The pedestrian zone with small stores also adjoins here.
