Beautiful path along the limestone cliffs on the Schäferburg.
September 25, 2020
If you hike along the P15, you circle the limestone cliffs of the Shepherd's Castle on the descent and ascent. Clearly visible is the shell limestone, which was formed from the deposits of a shallow sea more than two hundred million years ago.

The Shepherd's Castle probably got its name from the steep rock walls, which suggest a castle. However, no castle ever stood here. Nevertheless, a legend tells that the Shepherd's Castle was destroyed in a war. Only the lord's daughter is said to have escaped. On moonlit nights, one can watch a blond-haired maiden spinning and weaving a bridal veil in the King's Valley. After her work is done, she strides toward the Shepherd's Castle. However, the sound of the night watchman's horn indicates that she is late and the work must begin again the next moonlit night. Only a hazy mist remains of her appearance.
