Denmark completed its controversial wild boar fence on the border with Schleswig-Holstein in early December 2019. The fence is around 70 km long, was built in just 10 months and is intended to protect Denmark from the introduction of African swine fever.
The fence is really omnipresent when you go cycling or hiking in the vicinity of the German-Danish border. It's not nice and some conservationists describe the fence as a severe cut into nature in the border area and experts doubt that the epidemic can be stopped in this way.
