The Klapekster Visitor Center is housed in the former vagrant farm. The historical setting stimulates to discover the Colony and its spacious surroundings. Dream away from the valley Het Merkske, fool around at the Bootjesven ... all activities can be planned here between pot and pint. Or you can call on the employees of the visitor center.

Straight lanes and monumental buildings dominate the landscape in Merksplas-Colonie. In the past, vagabonds lived here, who were forced to be sent to the Colony. Because they were poor, begged or caused a nuisance. They worked and lived there together. This system came to an end in 1993.
