"Muna" (Heeres-Munitionsanstalt), was used to store and prepare ammunition for the German army. This officially as "H.Ma. Altenhain ”designated armaments company was established in April 1939. For this purpose, the Wehrmacht had acquired a forest plot of about 175 hectares, previously only used for woodworking purposes and for hunting, about 500 m north of the village. The purchase price was RM 382,967.33. In addition to various construction companies from the region and the Reich Labor Service, prisoners (members of the Wehrmacht who had initially committed criminal offenses) were also involved in the construction work. Although the "Muna" was built until the end of the war, the official commissioning took place on June 1, 1940. In the first years of the war, mostly German workers from the surrounding communities and towns were employed in the ammunition production. These were even brought in daily with specially procured buses. But the war situation that began in 1943 changed the situation. In addition to screwed up
There was now an acute shortage of workers in the ammunition production - almost all tangible male workers from the armaments industry were assigned to the fronts in this phase of the Second World War. Even military tasks increasingly had to be taken on by civilians. As a result, female prisoners from the Zwickau prison as well as prisoners of war from other nations (including Poles, Dutch, French, Belgians, Russians, English) came to Altenhain from this time on. These are now forced to replace the missing workforce. In addition, German women, the elderly, and girls and boys who were not yet working were still obliged to work in the armaments industry of the Third Reich.
