Best Hikes to Lough Gealáin

Tips

  • Small lake in the middle of the karst landscape in the Burren National Park. Since it is seasonal, the water level can sometimes be higher and sometimes lower.

  • Lough Gealáin is a turlough (seasonal lake). In its case, while it is present year-round, it sometimes can expand to flood the early part of the Blue, Green, and Red trails. As long as you have waterproof ankle-high boots, you should be able to continue to the mountain. Perch live in the turlough, but fishing is not permitted.
