Recommended by 89 out of 95 hikers
The Walsum lift bridge was built with the construction of the northern harbor, which it spans, in the 1930s, but was already destroyed towards the end of World War II. It was rebuilt after the war.
Most recently it was closed to motor vehicles due to the ongoing deterioration and is only passable for pedestrians and cyclists.

And the possible diversions are not the highlight now...nrz.de/staedte/duisburg/nord/hubbruecke-spd-walsum-bringen-eine-behelfsbruecke-ins-spiel-id234548211.html

<< Lift bridge in the north harbor of Walsum >>
"There are a total of three lift bridges in Duisburg. One of them is in the Walsum district. The bridge leads over the entrance to the north port of Walsum to the STEAG coal-fired power plant. A short canal branches off from the Rhine to the north harbor and leads under the lift bridge to the harbor basin. Up On the other side of the Rhine, opposite the north harbor, is the port facility of Orsoy. The lift bridge was built in 1934/35, blown up in March 1945 and rebuilt in 1950. Since October 2012 it has only been accessible to pedestrians and cyclists."
