Not all of the inscriptions on the stone seem original. The stone, about 50 meters from the main path, can be reached via a small trail. You don't stay here long ;-)

Where the Tönnigsberg bends to the southeast, with Börnecke just beyond it, at the very tip of Langenstein, there stands an inconspicuously small monument.
The Tönnigsstein, known to hardly anyone, where shepherds repeatedly quarreled, fought, and suffered.
Then the climax was approaching: Two shepherds approached with sheep. And each of them believed he was in the right that day, and neither gave in. In the end, one of them remained lying there.
The small memorial stone is meant to tell us: Here, once (in 1537), a shepherd was murdered.
The meadows of yesteryear are no longer there; hardly anyone knows what happened back then.
      And now the question arises:
What is truth and what is legend?

There was a dispute between two shepherds. Each claimed the other had crossed territory boundaries. After one shepherd died, the other had to set up this stone as atonement.
