Between 1870 and 1906, a large network of canals was built to the left of the Ems. The Coevorden-Piccardie Canal connects the South-North Canal near Georgsdorf with the Stieltjes Canal near Coevorden. The first of four locks can be seen here. It has been restored true to the original and, like all left-Semsian canals, is a listed building.
