400 years ago, clever Bavarians built the world's first pipeline. Salt flowed in hollow tree trunks in a 31 km long brine pipeline from Reichenhall to Traunstein, overcoming mountains. A good 500 steps lead in a straight line up to the old Nagling well house to the highest point. At the top is the high reserve from 1817, which held around 1200 cubic meters of brine and ensured that production did not stop in the event of a leak.
