The Habsburg waiting room is located on the 542 m high Hermannskogel in Vienna. It is 27 meters high and has the shape of a medieval fortified tower. The architect Franz von Neumann is responsible for the external appearance.The Habsburg observatory was founded by the Austrian Tourist Club in 1888 on the occasion of the 40th anniversary of the reign of Emperor Franz Joseph I and opened in 1889. In 1972 it was listed as a historical monument. It is still operated by the ÖTK as a lookout tower and is open to the public on weekends from spring to late autumn (around April to November) for a small entrance fee. However, there are also other dates for registered groups.On the viewing platform of the Habsburg observatory is the fundamental point of the Austrian Land Surveying, the 1892 from k. u. k. Military Geographic Institute was determined.During the Second World War the Habsburg wardens were damaged.
