Behind the chapel, a huge spire reaches skyward. There, a few steps lead to the base of the old monument in the shape of an airplane. Here you can see the nose, the wings, the tail and the name in large white letters. This memorial to Nungesser and Coli commemorates the departure of the Oiseau blanc, the first and so unsuccessful attempt to cross the Atlantic Ocean without a stopover (May 8, 1927). The aircraft was last spotted at this location.
