The former Cistercian abbey was founded in 1267 by the Counts of Oettingen and used as a burial place until the 16th century. In 1802 the monastery fell to the Oettingen-Wallerstein family as part of the secularisation and was converted into a princely domain. The monastery church, abbey and convent wing were donated to the catholic church in 1948. Parish bequeathed.

The church is usually Open daily between 8 a.m. and 6 p.m., guided tours of the monastery are available on request.
