The market square is usually surrounded by two-storey gabled houses from the 17th to 19th centuries, most of which were renovated after being destroyed in the war in 1945. Outstanding is the so-called Gilardihaus, built from 1723 to 1728 by Gabriel de Gabrieli, named after Jacob Gilardi, the seat of one of the oldest wire goods manufacturers in Germany (founded 1689).
