The Rocchetta Mattei is a fortress located in the northern Apennines, on a hill 407 meters above sea level, in the locality of Savignano in the municipality of Grizzana Morandi, on state road 64 Porrettana. Built in the second half of the 19th century, it eclectically mixes different styles, from medieval to Moorish. Built on the ruins of the thirteenth-century Rocca di Savignano, it went through various construction phases with numerous additions and modifications. On 5 November 1850 the first stone of the Rocchetta was laid.
