In the middle of the 19th century, the Moorish fantasy castle had the Italian miracle healer Cesare Mattei built. There he developed the healing method "electrohomopathy". Supposedly even celebrities such as the Russian Tsar Alexander II and Bavarian King Ludwig have consulted him here.
After a citizen's initiative had campaigned since 1997 against the decay of neglected by its owners castle, it was bought in 2005 by a foundation, gradually renovated and is since 2015 again publicly available.
