The way of designing and producing the eye-catching mesh itself has been a time-consuming task. Professor Martin Jan van Mourik of the Ravenstein Fortifications Foundation: ,,The designs in the fence were devised by our foundation and supplied to an Amsterdam artist. He drew the blueprint for the mesh using a special computer technique. That design was then sent to India, where the entire mesh was hand-braided; a painstaking task that took four months.

One of the figures woven into the fence is the effigy of Philips van Kleef, the namesake of the stronghold behind it. Next to it is a soldier with the flag of the coat of arms of Philips van Kleef on it. In addition, firing cannons, gatekeepers and a standard-bearer are depicted in the fencing.
