Probably the worst part of the Buchenwald concentration camp. Anyone who was housed here was literally sentenced to death.
In the zone sealed off from the main camp there were twelve windowless Wehrmacht horse stables without sanitary facilities. Instead of beds, there were only four-story, shelf-like boxes made of raw wood. Each of the stables was originally intended for around 50 horses. However, the small camp had to accommodate an average of a thousand, sometimes almost 2,000 people. In 1944 the SS had an additional five large tents set up. At the beginning of 1945, around 6,000 people died here in less than a hundred days until the liberation. Most of them were Jewish prisoners.
