St. Martin Nennig Church

The Church of St. Martin is a Roman Catholic parish church in Nennig, a district of the municipality of Perl, Merzig-Wadern district, Saarland. The church bears the patronage of St. Martin and is listed as an individual monument in the Saarland's list of monuments. There has been evidence of a parish in Nennig as early as 924, which presumably belonged to the upper property of the diocese of Trier. Pope Eugene III. confirmed on February 6, 1147 the St. Matthias Abbey in Trier the ownership of the parish church Nennig. Out of anger against the Abbey of St. Matthias, the Archbishop of Trier and Elector Heinrich II von Finstingen destroyed, among other things, the village of Nennig in 1261.
