The Kalte Warte is the highest point in the area of the Bar Mountains near Halberstadt.
It is located in the west of the ridge and southeast of the striking rock formation "Gläserner Mönch".
Below the summit of the Kalten Warte there is an attractive vantage point directly on the hiking trail.
The view, which is unfortunately somewhat restricted by the lush vegetation, allows a beautiful view of the town of Langenstein and its surroundings and, in good weather, even as far as the Brocken.
The steep sandstone cliff on which the view is located is secured by a railing.
A bench with an impressive view also invites you to take a short break.
There was once an observation tower on the mountain, which at the time was also known as a control room.
This is obviously responsible for the name of the mountain.
There is no direct way up to the summit.
The Kalte Warte can be easily reached via the hiking trail leading from the Gläserne Mönch to the southeast.
Follow this path for about three hundred meters and then turn right.
The lookout point is not signposted (as of 2020).
There is also no indication of him directly on site.
Nevertheless, it should hardly be overlooked together with the rock formation.(Source: harzlife.de)
