The cave was originally built in the nineteenth century in the church of Oostham. In 1934, during the renovation of the church, it was rebuilt outside the church, but during the war the cave was completely neglected. It was finally demolished in '59. “A group of stretcher bearers thought this was a shame and completely rebuilt the Lourdes Grotto in the forests of the Warande. With horse and cart they carefully brought all the numbered stones to the Warande.”
In the wooded area, the cave grew into a well-known pilgrimage site in the area.

A still very popular Lourdes grotto at the beginning of the so-called forests of the Warande in Ham, with a parking lot nearby from where you can also enter the Gerheserheide nature reserve.

The history of the chapel and certainly also the perfect location and beauty of the surroundings ensured that people from all over the region soon came to pray, so that the chapel became a local place of pilgrimage.
