There is a raised platform here with information boards, a round bench and a view of the coal port. There are also some old buildings, but judging by the permits of the owners of the site, these could disappear. Fortunately, the way of the old track is not. Tip: you can see the old harbor much better from the side of the canal. Cyclists are probably familiar with the old bridge that is located there.

Hiking

Transport by ship was the easiest way to transport the masses of coal. Many mines therefore built a special coal port. The Beringen mine was located near the Turnhout-Hasselt canal. This coal port was built in 1920. Since there were often kilometers of 'traffic jam' on the old canal, a new canal was opened in 1939: the Albert Canal.
