Between 1924 and 1926, the Italian company S.A.I.M.T. (Società Anonima Imprese Minerarie Trentine) built a materials cable car to efficiently transport ore from the Schneeberg to the valley floor. This was the first time that industrial cable car technology was used to streamline transport.The starting point was St. Martin am Schneeberg, from where the cable car led over the high Schneebergscharte (2,700 m) towards Maiern, where it ended up at a diversion station.
