The bridge, originally dating back to the 13th century, has had to be renovated several times throughout its history. The current bridge was inaugurated in 2012 and is a reconstruction based on the historical model, with the number of piers reduced from 13 to 10.

However, the overall visual impression of the bridge is disappointing. It doesn't look like a "historical model," but rather a modern, historicizing one. It's all just a bit of a facade.

I also think the curbs are too high.

Definitely worth a detour. There are occasional snack stands along the shore, or you can head straight to the nearby ice cream parlors in town.

There's relatively little traffic at this point.

The Old Main Bridge in Ochsenfurt is a multi-arched stone bridge that spans the River Main at river kilometer 271.18[1] and connects the town of Ochsenfurt with the district of Kleinochsenfurt. It has a lane for passenger vehicles with a maximum gross weight of 3.5 tons heading into the city, and for cyclists in both directions, as well as an upstream sidewalk. The structure, whose core dates back to the Middle Ages, is one of the most important large bridges from this period in Germany and is listed as a historic monument in the Bavarian Register of Historic Monuments.

The 270-meter-long bridge originally had thirteen piers. Today, four remain on the city side and six at the northern end. Two piers in the middle of the bridge were removed in 1957. The piers, which are between 5.32 and 9.60 meters wide and 11.94 to 15.79 meters long, are founded on wooden piles and beam grids and have spur-like foreheads to protect against ice drift and flotsam. On piers two, three, and twelve, there are pulpits, on which stand two stone statues of the patron saint John of Nepomuk and one of Thekla of Kitzingen. The clear widths vary from 11.47 meters between piers ten and eleven to 15.3 meters between piers three and four. The roadway width varies between 5.36 and 6.64 meters.

The modern, arched bridge superstructure consists of a 108-meter-long, three-span prestressed concrete beam with a two-webbed T-beam cross-section. The span length above the navigation channel is 60 meters. The two 24-meter-long side spans are integrated into the historic arched bridge. The heights of the bridge girders vary between 2.4 meters above the inner piers and 1.6 meters at the center of the bridge. Construction was carried out using shoring in the foreland area and cantilevered over the Main River.
