Excerpt from a publication by the Dessau Museum of Technology: Johannes Winkler founded the "Association for Spaceflight (VfR)" in 1927 and published a corresponding journal on rocket technology and spaceflight ("Die Rakete").
Through his laboratory experiments at the Technical University of Breslau measuring thrust curves on solid-fuel engines and initial attempts to construct a propulsion system for liquid fuels ("jet engine"), he attracted the attention of Prof. Hugo Junkers, who hired Winkler as a test engineer at his research institute in Dessau in 1929. Here, Winkler conducted research on rockets as launch aids for aircraft.
