Baron Edmond Van Eervelde had built a castle and coach house on this location in 1910. The Van Eervelde family were pioneers in the Molse Zandwinning. The castle survived the First World War. Germans blew up the castle when they withdrew from the region. In the post-war years, the remaining building materials of the castle were stolen and the park fell into disrepair and gradually disappeared into the landscape.
Now only the coach house, old stately trees, an overgrown cobblestone road and contours of the old park pond remind us of a rich past. The former castle park is now used for youth camps.

The watering "De Maat" was built in 1850 and belonged to August De Mulder, who had a kind of hunting lodge built there in 1853. These waterings were acquired in 1910 by Baron E. Van Eetvelde, an important statesman during the reign of Leopold II; he had the hunting lodge demolished and built castle "De Maat", registered in the land register in 1910. It had a bay window that served as a water tower. In 1938, the castle and the adjacent grounds were purchased by the municipality; during the war, sprit (fossil wood) was mined on a large scale as cheap fuel, resulting in numerous ponds; after the spriet reclamation in 1949, the area of 60 hectares grew into a nature reserve while preserving the original landscape of the watering, see Rauw. The castle itself was demolished after the Second World War.

Nice area, I think (not sure) the area of the old castle park is closed off.
