After Expo 98 the event hall was named Pavilhão Atlântico. In 2013, Portugal Telecom became the name sponsor of the building and named it after its product MEO. The hall was renamed Altice Arena on October 16, 2017.
The hall hosts events from 20 to 20,000 spectators. In addition to sporting events and concerts, u. a. conferences, meetings, trade fairs and seminars were also held in the arena. The hall was also the venue for the Eurovision Song Contest 2018.
