In 1722 the Reformed community of Remscheid decided to replace its old dilapidated church with a new building. During the construction work, a fire destroyed large parts of the shell in the following year. The church was finally completed between 1726 and 1730. In 1824 a sacristy was added. Over the years the church has been renovated several times.
