The small and large stone chambers are located in the "Erdbacher Höhlen" nature reserve. High on the valley slope, some fossil parts of the Erdbach cave system were exposed by the weather and partially destroyed by erosion.

One should look at the caves, if there is no leaves on the trees. You can see more then.

The small stone chamber is very cool with the small passage, especially for slightly larger children. With a flashlight you can walk without problems, or partially crawl when you have grown up. 🙂🏊‍♂️

The coral limestone stone chambers were created more than 250 million years ago in the Upper Devonian as corals and were washed out in the following epochs of the water. They were used as living and burial caves in the La Tene period (circa 400 years BC). Finds from these caves are mostly kept in the Landesmuseum Wiesbaden.

To walk well, but you should be sure-footed. A little fitness should also be present.
Rather unsuitable for small children and not recommended with prams.
Clothes that can get dirty and take a flashlight or better a headlamp for little cave explorers.

Super nice caves that are not too big, but can be explored. Interesting not only for children. The creation and later use is explained very clearly on display boards. The caves are part of the Karst nature trail.

The entire karst educational trail, including the Gasse Gorge and the stone chambers, is recommended.

By coincidence, the autumn labyrinth show cave (schauhoehle-breitscheid.de/) was open. An additional highlight that was not mentioned in this tour.

It goes a bit into both stone chambers. It is very impressive how the stones have piled up and overlapped in the last millennia.

You can easily climb through the small stone chamber with children, it is essential to start at the bottom and go up, because a larger rock obstacle is in the way right at the beginning of the cave, but you can climb up there and then come out at the top. The lower entrance is to the left of the exit a few meters down, enjoy
