This dry valley is probably the creek bed dug by the “Ice Age Erdbach”. Its lower part has a decidedly gorge-like character at a length of 600 meters. The slopes of the alley gorge are covered by a species-rich mixed deciduous forest, in which, in addition to beech, ash and maple, beautiful elms (which unfortunately fell victim to the elm splint beetle) and linden trees stand out.
The gorge was closed for security measures. The path has been open again since December 2020. You can find more information here: schauhoehle-breitscheid.de/news/item/gasse-schlucht-gesperr.

At the end of the gorge, after the Schützenhaus, the Erdbach again emerges from the mountain.
Because of the small outlet opening, the water can accumulate in the mountain and then exits at other places from the mountain.
