Funicular dos Guindais

The Porto funicular is called Funicular Dos Guindais and connects the Batalha area (upper part of the center) with the Ribeira (river banks) in a fast and entertaining way.

The Guindais funicular offers an unforgettable view over the old town of Porto and the Douro river valley. The Funicular dos Guindais transports more than 3.5 million passengers every year. It leads from the banks of the Douro along an old city wall up to Praça da Batalha. You spend around two minutes in the cabin of the cable car, which offers a great view. The railway line has been in operation since 1891, and in 2004 the funicular railway was comprehensively renewed. From up here you have an unobstructed view of the Serra do Pilar monastery, the impressive Dom Luís I bridge and the Douro river valley.
