The hypar shell is a multi-purpose hall that was built in 1969 according to the plans of civil engineer Ulrich Müther. It is located in the Rotehorn city park in Magdeburg. There it lies in an axis between the Magdeburg Stadthalle and the state broadcasting center of the MDR. In 1998, the shell structure was included in the list of state monuments[1] and is therefore under monument protection.[2]

"The original construction of the shell roof was carried out by the company Gerling & Rausch using shotcrete according to Ulrich Müther's instructions. The craftsmen applied the only 7-centimeter-thick concrete layer quadrant by quadrant onto a wooden formwork using injection pumps, using the so-called "torkret" method. The special feature was that the four hyperbolic paraboloids were each cast in one pour, without subdividing into multiple sections and without interruption."
