Road cycling
The Ötztal Cycle Path is very nicely run and well developed in places. But: It always goes up and down, especially when the cycle path has no more space next to the road in narrow sections. You collect a lot of altitude, but it takes strength. Partly the bike path is not paved. If you want to cycle towards Sölden with the RR as quickly as possible and save your energy for the Timmelsjoch, it is better to stay on the main road or - if available - on the parallel cycle path.

The Ötztal is well worth seeing even without a marathon and a tour from Ötz up to Sölden or beyond to the Rettenbachferner or the Timmelsjoch is definitely recommended.
A detour to one of the side valleys, e.g. at Längenfeld up to Gries, is worth considering.
