The royal tomb is one of the most famous megalithic tombs in the Emsland region. Its supporting and capstones are relatively well preserved, allowing one to get an idea of the original structure. Not far away is a megalithic tomb reconstructed around 1950.

The imposing megalithic tombs of the Early Stone Age megalithic culture are particularly impressive because of the technical achievements they represent in the early history of humanity. The primacy of the megalithic tomb near Bruneforth is certainly undisputed. But it is also certain that the royal tomb here, in particular, takes undisputed second place among these early, cultic sites of the Stone Age here on the Hümmling.
