On the Hünengräberstraße, in the middle of the moraine landscape of the Hümmling, there are several large stone tombs close together that are well worth seeing. At the parking lot you will find a lot of information about the megalithic culture.

The six better preserved megalithic structures on the Hümmling megalithic tombs road lie on both sides of the K 138 road from Groß Berßen to Hüven on the Hümmling in the Emsland in Lower Saxony. The megalithic tombs, some of which are located in the heath of the 14-hectare Holschkenfehn nature reserve, bear the Sprockhoff numbers 856–861 and are in varying states of preservation. The megalithic structure from the Neolithic period was built by the Funnel Beaker Culture (TBK) between 3500 and 2800 BC. Neolithic monuments are an expression of the culture and ideology of Neolithic societies. Their origins and functions are seen as hallmarks of social development. These megalithic tombs were first mentioned in a travelogue from 1825. Even then, individual structures had been destroyed. Systematic excavations took place mainly in 1955/1956.

A very beautiful area and a great hiking trail along these huge megalithic tombs. There are also benches and lots of information boards at this point.
