Bear Park Bern
Bärenpark Bern is an animal enclosure opened in 2009
Bern and replaces the old bear pit for keeping the animals. The brown bear facility is located on the bank of the Aare opposite the old town and is part of the Bernese zoo Dählhölzli, which is also located on the Aare River about two kilometers to the southwest. The Bear Park and the old Bear Pit are one of the most famous sights in Berne. The bear is the heraldic animal of the city and the canton of Bern.
The two old bear trenches are used differently today. The big ditch continues to be part of the bear complex. The bears are kept in the ditch for a short time when the large plant is cleaned or food is distributed there. The little ditch is open to the public.
