The Westerplatte near Danzig is a largely forested, sandy, elongated peninsula with no significant elevations between the Baltic Sea and the port canal. She became known through the bombardment of the Polish ammunition depot on September 1, 1939, which is considered to be the beginning of the Second World War.

Here at the Westerplatte World War II was triggered. The resistance lasted 7 days. Today there is a branch of the WIIW museum with plaques and a huge memorial.

On this peninsula is thought the beginning of the 2nd World War. Various memorials and ruins remind visitors of the historic events of 1939.
