Schwerin Old Town

Schwerin is divided into several districts. The so-called Old Town (Altstadt) is located around Schwerin Cathedral and is the historic core. Settlement dates back a long way, and ancient traces can still be seen today. Schwerin Cathedral and the area around the market square are worth seeing.Link:

We Schwerin residents are happy that we can now find it beautiful; our art history teacher was constantly outraged by this hodgepodge of neo-style buildings. But now it's already striving for World Heritage status. It's beautifully situated on an island in the lake... It's impressive... a fairytale castle.Not for architects or art historians.The highlight is Schwerin Cathedral with the Paradise Gate, the oldest surviving piece of architecture in Schwerin. Inside, there are a few things to see (brass gravestones of the bishops von Bülow, an epitaph from the workshop of Peter Vischer, a 15th-century Loste altar, and a very beautiful Romantic organ by Ladegast. In the summer, there's free organ music on Mondays at lunchtime.
The best thing about Schwerin is its location! There's little that's old...
