Schwerin Castle is an absolute highlight with a long history. In 1160, the Wendish prince Niklot burned the Slavic fortress and withdrew. Henry the Lion rebuilt it, laying the foundation for the present-day city of Schwerin.
The castle now houses the state parliament and a museum.
