The 8.7 hectare Burgsee is located directly at Schwerin Castle. The castle island separates the Burgsee from the Schwerin Lake (Schwerin Inner Lake). The Burgsee is connected to the Schwerin Lake by a ditch. The maximum water depth is around 3.45 m, depending on the season. The shore of the Burgsee is 1,730 m long. The area of the lake was redesigned for the Federal Garden Show. Today, the Schwerin Burgsee is a recreational area for many Schwerin residents and home to fauna and flora.
