The large and richly decorated in historical mixture style Christian Orthodox Church was completed in 1900 on the Toompea Hill, at the time Estonia was part of the Tsar Empire. The well-preserved cathedral is Tallinn's most generous example of Christian Orthodox sacred architecture. In the towers of the church is Tallinn's most powerful church bells ensemble. It consists of 11 bells, including Tallinn's largest 15-tonne bell. The whole carillon of the ensemble can be heard before the services. The decorated with mosaics and icons interior is worth the visit.

Hiking

During Estonia's independence, the cathedral, seen as a symbol of Russification, was scheduled for demolition in 1924. During World War II, the German occupiers closed the cathedral in 1941. It was extensively restored at the end of the 20th century. Some services are held in Estonian.
